11/22/10

I met "Big John" Voit just about four months ago. At the time, I didn't realize how short his time would be.

He was a talented musician, and regaled me with stories of people and places I wish I'd shared with him.

Like many of us professional musicians, he did not have the health or life insurance that comes with working for larger companies in the corporte world.

I'm hosting a benefit for John Sunday 12/5 at the Minnesota Music Cafe.
Over the coming days I will add more thoughts on John. I hope you will find it in your heart to come out for the benefit honoring his memory...and dig deep to share a few coins with his family during these sorrow-filld difficult times.

Peace,
--Jr. Trejo

Mid-America Music Hall of Fame Sept 16-17-18

Twenty five Minnesota based musical groups are tuning up for a three day musical revival at the Sheraton Bloomington in Minneapolis in September.

Under sponsorship of the Mid-America Music Hall of Fame, the bands will be performing the music that made them household names over the past four decades.

The occasion is the annual induction show and is open to the public all three nights, September 16-18. Among the groups to be honored are The Accents, Haze (formerly Purple Haze), The Lamont Cranston Band, The Deacons, TC Jammers, Nite Train, Stillroven, Frank Wagamon and the Sextet, Cain, The Sensational Sleepers, The Poor Boys, Nielsen-White Band, Mick Sterling and the Stud Brothers, Joker’s Wild, The Rembrandts, Sounds of Blackness, The Electras, Damon Lee and the Diablos, Double Nickels, Rockie Robbins, Shangoya and Westside.

In addition, several individuals will also be honored for their contributions, including Sue McLean, Randy Levy, Gordy Singer, Jimmy Hyde, John Hautla, David Anthony Wachter, Milwaukee Slim, Frank Wagamon, Dick Fischer, Steve Adams, Dean Magraw, Anthony Cox, Jay Epstein, Benny Heilman, Phil Solem, Marcene Church, Bill Jordan, Doris Hines, and Steve Raitt,

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. each night and the induction portion of the evening will begin at 8:00 p.m. There will be autograph sessions, silent auction of music memorabilia, live auction of inductee autographed guitars and live musical performances.

For many of these groups, the occasion will be a reunion of band mates that haven’t jammed together in decades. It’s a time to dust off the guitars and work on getting their chops back for the live audience.

The Mid-America Music Hall of Fame, founded in 2000, recognizes the unique contribution that Minnesota musicians and industry people have made, not only to Midwest music, but to the national music scene, as well.

For more information and tickets go to www.rockcountryhall.com or email midamericamusichall@gmail.com Tickets are also available at the door or through the Sheraton by calling 866-837-4278.
